Abstract Reasoning Test

Introduction

ART is a high-ceiling, numerical-abstract, nonverbal intelligence test designed to measure advanced pattern recognition and inductive reasoning.

The items consist of matrices of varying sizes composed of diverse shapes and numbers. Each problem requires filling in the highlighted box or boxes:

• with a number if yellow (the most common case)

• with a drawing if cyan

• with either a number or a drawing if magenta

No specialized knowledge is required to complete the test. Basic arithmetic is invariably involved; however, the primary emphasis is on observation and the ability to infer latent rules from sparse information.
